HOUSE CONCURS WITH SENATE CREDIT CARD BILL, INCLUDING GUN PROVISION

As reported earlier today, the House began deliberations on the credit card legislation approved by the Senate yesterday. The Credit Card Accountability Responsibility and Disclosure Act of 2009 (S.A. 1058) was introduced by Senators Dodd and Shelby as a substitute for the Credit Cardholders’ Bill of Rights Act of 2009 (H.R. 627), which passed the House on April 30. See Alerts dated May 4, 15 and 20, 2009.

First, the House passed H.R. 456, a resolution providing for immediate consideration of the bill passed by the Senate, with Section 512 (the guns in national parks amendment) subject to a separate vote.

Then, after a short debate, the House voted to agree to the Senate amendment to H.R. 627. In a separate vote, the House agreed to concur with the Senate’s Section 512. Thus, the Senate bill soon will be on its way to the President for signature.

  • Judy Scheiderer and Vanessa Nelson
